PD Guidance for EI Members

Professional Development

Professional development (PD) is the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of your skills, experiences, attributes and competencies. CPD can help you work towards or maintain chartered status. It can also help enhance your career prospects, expand your networks and increase your motivation and enjoyment of your job.

What is Professional Development?

PD means identifying your professional goals, carrying out activities to achieve these and regularly reviewing your progress. PD activities could include:

  • On the job learning;
  • Private reading and study;
  • Professional institution activities;
  • Writing papers and articles;
  • Assisting and supporting colleagues and other professionals;
  • Academic/vocational qualifications;
  • Informal training.

Continuing Professional Development

Once you have achieved professional membership of the EI it is important that you keep your skills and knowledge up-to-date. You can do this through continuing professional development. Members of the Energy Institute can use our online professional development system for just £30 per year. You can carry out a personal skills assessment, develop a plan and keep track of your CPD status as well as keeping your CPD paperwork and evidence record in an easily accessible format. For a username and password to use the online system please email James at jrelf@energyinst.org.uk
